Two pieces of leather are used to make up a full leather binding. The seam where they overlap is usually found on the cover spine but is often difficult to detect.

Note: This feature is very specific for bindings made in the Islamic world, although not all bindings in the Islamic world are made with the two-piece technique; yet, the technique is so far not reported in other bookbinding traditions.
