Conservation * Condition Issues
STAIN

An area of discoloration in a support caused by introduction of a liquid to this area. The applied liquid may itself contain colored material that remains visible when it dries. Alternatively, the liquid may chemically interact with the support so that discoloration develops over time. Or, the applied liquid may solubilize and shift colorants in the support affecting their homogenous distribution, making some places darker and others lighter.
