An approximate area encompassing roughly the two centimeters closest to outer limits of a support.
- # Strictly speaking, an edge refers to the outer limit of a surface (see Edge of a board or textblock), however, in general usage it often encompasses also the area adjacent to that outer limit. So a conservator might observe that “the edges of the paper are damaged” and this damage is understood to extend from the outer limit of the paper into the areas close by.
