UNSUPPORTED SEWING
Sewing that does not use sewing supports on the textblock spine.  The connection between the covers and textblock is usually made by the spine-lining extensions, the covering material extending onto the textblock spine, and possibly by material joining the doublure to the textblock on the inner joints.
